Chicken Run (Denver to Oklahoma City)

Friday April 6, 2018 – Friday April 13, 2018

Greater Prairie Chicken

As the title suggests this trip is focused on grouse and related birds and is scheduled so we will have a chance to photograph several species of them performing their courtship “dances.”  In order to do this we will need to cover a lot of ground and wake up well before sunrise so we can be in place before the dancing starts.

The trip will take us to a variety of habitats ranging from a high mountain pass to expansive grasslands and sandhills.  We will visit the leks of Greater Sage Grouse, Sharp-tailed Grouse, Greater Prairie Chicken and Lesser Prairie Chicken.  We will also make an effort to find Dusky grouse and White-tailed Ptarmigan.  We might also pick up Wild Turkey, Northern Bobwhite, Scaled Quail and Ring-necked Pheasant along the way.

We have worked hard to find the best leks and blinds for photography making this trip a special opportunity to get top quality photos of these amazing birds at the height of their breeding rituals.  Guests will be able to take advantage of the years of work we have done building relationships with landowners to gain access to some of the choicest places available to witness these age-old dances.

Our goal is for you to come home with quality images that you will be proud to show to others.
