Eight days from the oak forests of the Talamanca highlands to the warm lowlands of the central Pacific coast. We start high in the Savegre valley, home of the Resplendent Quetzal and a long list of highland birds found only in Costa Rica and western Panama. From there we drop to the rainforest foothills near Quepos and finish on the Tárcoles River, where Scarlet Macaws, mangrove birds and dry-forest species meet.
Highlights
• Resplendent Quetzals at fruiting trees in the Savegre valley
• Highland birds found only in Costa Rica and western Panama
• Southern Pacific-slope specialties such as Fiery-billed Aracari and Baird's Trogon near Esquipulas
• Scarlet Macaws, mangrove specialties and Carara National Park around Tárcoles
• Each day built around the best light: early sessions, a quieter midday and a return to the field in the afternoon
