By mid-June the North Woods of Minnesota are full of breeding songbirds in their brightest plumage, with more than 20 species of warblers nesting within an hour or two of Duluth. We spend two days in the bogs, fens and forests of Sax-Zim Bog, then follow the rocky shore of Lake Superior north into the boreal forest of the Superior National Forest. This trip follows our Texas Hill Country trip, so you can go from Painted Buntings to Blackburnian Warblers in a single trip.

Highlights

• More than 20 species of warblers nesting within an hour or two of Duluth

• Two days at Sax-Zim Bog, one of the most reliable places in the country for the shy Connecticut Warbler

• Up the rocky North Shore of Lake Superior into the boreal forest

• Boreal specialties in the Superior National Forest: Canada Jay, Boreal Chickadee, Black-backed Woodpecker and, with luck, Spruce Grouse

• Combine with the Texas Hill Country trip (June 1–8)
