Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula is an amazing place for bird photography, with a long list of birds found only on the peninsula alongside widespread stunners like the American Flamingo. In winter it is also home to many of the warblers and other songbirds that we see in the US during migration and the breeding season. We spend the first half of the trip on the north coast of the peninsula, among mangroves, lagoons and coastal scrub, and the second half in the forests of southern Quintana Roo. The trip suits photographers of every level and is not physically demanding.

Highlights

• A morning on the water with American Flamingos, worked at eye level from a low boat in the early light

• Coastal scrub and mangrove specialties such as Mexican Sheartail, Yucatan Wren, Black-throated Bobwhite and Mangrove Vireo

• Three full days in the forests of southern Quintana Roo for the rest of the peninsula's specialties

• Wintering warblers from the north joining the resident flocks
